Dependecy Theory

With Dependency theory, they suggest that people rely on the media for information determining their decisions. This means the media can create many different feelings such as fear, anxiety, and happiness.

1) I tend to use the media mainly for entertainment and socialising with people. i do at times use it for information to find out what is going on and also research. sometimes i use the media for a distraction or when i have nothing else to do. when i am doing work i tend to have the tv on for background noise.

2) i feel that most of the population is really dependent on the media to find things out or just for entertainment. as technology has developed the use of the media has increased and therefore the dependency has increased too as everything and anything is available on the media. The media is able to control how we feel by what we watch or listen to.

Uses and Gratifications Theory

DIVERSION - X FACTOR
x-factor fits into diversion as it is a way to keep your mind off the everyday problems and routines that you face by watching it on a saturday evening with family.

TWILIGHT
Twilight fits into personal relationships, as people can relate to the relationships and emotions of the characters. It also allows the audience to judge and believe in the characters developing their feelings and affection for the characters.

Audience Theory.

The two-step flow model instead suggests the audience are influenced by ‘opinion leaders’ in the media who mediate how the audience react to media texts. The theory suggests the media is not all-powerful and that social factors are important.

Yes, it is still relevant as there are many types of opinion leaders that can influence the way we react to media.

SHOT REVERSE SHOT:
this is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.

180 DEGREE RULE:
This is another editing technique where the camera is kept on one side of the action.  It keeps the characters on a particular side of the screen and keeps them looking at one another.

MATCH ON ACTION:
match on action refers to film editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action.

Audience: Psychographics.

i am working with dhruvina and the psychographic group we are researching is 'Explorers'. These people are driven by a need for discovery, challenge and new frontiers. Young in nature, if not in reality, Explorers are often the first to try out new ideas and experiences. They respond to brands that offer new sensations, indulgence and instant effects. In short, difference is what they seek out.Their core need in life is for discovery. our example couple are called 'Chase' and 'Kate'. Chase and Kate study full time in college and are adventure seekers. In their spare time they wonder around, go to different places and try new types of things. they constantly do activities that give them a rush.

Explorers may be likely to read travel guides such as lonely planet magazines as they love to travel to new places and discover new things.
They would watch action programs and action or sci-fi based films.
They own any type of new and latest technologies as they like new cool things. they visit websites which tell them about new activities and new things to try.
